There’s a saying in Sierra Leone that unless you have eaten rice, you haven’t eaten for that day.  Yet, despite good conditions for growing this simple grain a trip around the markets of the capital, Freetown, reveals that the country is importing plenty of rice.

This first AGI podcast features an interview with Professor Monty Jones, Minister of Agriculture in Sierra Leone as well as talking to rice producers about why locally grown ‘country rice’ isn’t more widely available.
